ABOUT THE DEVELOPER
Ray Sessions, PH.D., Instrument & Commercial Rated Pilot & past President, Florida Private Airports Association, started Cannon Creek Airpark in the late seventies for family and friends. Various friends have since developed some of the new sections with the help of the pilots who have come to the Airpark and with other investors. The Airpark has grown and improved from the original cornfield and forrest of 110 acres in 1977 to more than 500 acres. Ray Sessions gave credit for the Airpark over the years to family, friends, partners, and to the pilots and their families who trusted him and had faith in the airpark. Ray felt that these pilots and their ideas and contributions have made the airpark what it is today.
Located among the moss draped oaks of North Central Florida, just 9 miles south of the intersection of I-10 and I-75, Cannon Creek Airpark is one of Florida’s finest southern aviation communities. While Lake City is referred to as the “Gateway to Florida” and is host to thousands of visitors to our historic State, life tends to move at a gentle pace in Lake City. At Cannon Creek you will find time to blend relaxation with recreation and work in therapeutic doses.
The Airpark is served by four great approaches, runway 18/36 has 3,500 paved feet and is lighted. Lights are owned and maintained voluntarily by the residents. Runway 9/27 has 2,400 feet of manicured turf. Cannon Creek is on the Jacksonville Sectional and the Unicom is 123.0. There is one obstruction which is a 600 ft. tower in the SE Sector.
Home sites range in size from one half acre to six acres and begin at $90,000. Homes range from modest to elaborate with an appealing mix of architectural styles, minimum building size, restrictive covenants and architectural guidelines vary within the Airpark allowing flexibility and creativity as well as protection for property owners.
The 600+ acres of Cannon Creek are blessed with average temperatures in the 80’s in summer and low to mid 50’s in winter, offering an enjoyable change of season. Any time of year, you can spend an afternoon with a picnic under our majestic oaks beside a babbling creek or hangar flying while working on your most recent aviation project (an open hangar door is the same as an open invitation for neighbors around here).
Golf and tennis are but a walk away when you want to take a break from hangar flying or “the real thing” and the abundance of moss draped rivers and open lakes make fishing and boating a year round event.
Cannon Creek is one mile from shopping and restaurants which include all your national chain favorites as well as quaint, local shops and eateries. Antiquing at its best can be found in Lake City and nearby High Springs. If country living with big city convenience is your desire, then you will find Gainesville & Jacksonville within a one-hour drive. Lake City also boasts one of the finest Veterans Hospitals in the country in addition to two other outstanding medical facilities. Banks, churches, schools and museums are also only a mile or so away.
At Cannon Creek there is plently of friendly help from the resident aviation enthusiasts for even your most ambitious projects. Pilot and mechanic qualifications are as varied in the Airpark as are the aircraft. From Ultra-Lights to the occasional King Air, there is always a lot of flying, good food and conversation. With a very active EAA Chapter on the field, you will always be involved. More information on the EAA Chapter can be seen at eaa977.org
